T-PACK MODEL


When teachers want to use instructional technologies in their lessons, they use technology models like TPACK to better design their teaching activities. TPACK is a framework that describes the activities in line with the curriculum and students' pedagogical expectations using teaching technologies. This methods increases the academic motivation of students. There are 3 basic components of knowledge in the framework and they interact with each other. These are '' Content Knowledge (CK)'', Pedagogical Knowledge (PK)'', ''Technology Knowledge (TK)''.

Content Knowledge (CK)

Pedagogy Knowledge (PK)

Technology Knowledge (TK)

Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK)

Technological Content Knowledge (TCK)

Technological Pedagogy Knowledge (TPK)


Content Knowledge (CK)

Content knowledge covers information about the subject learned or taught. Organizational chart, evidence, proven practices, ideas can be in the knowledge.


Pedagogical Knowledge (PK)

It is about how to gain the acquired content knowledge to students. For example, collaborative learning, project-based learning.


Technological Knowledge (TK)

It provides access to information on how to use technological tools and resources. For example, use of tablet-laptop, use of web 2.0 tools, use of smart boards.


Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK)

It includes the planning of the activity by choosing the most appropriate teaching-learning method for the content knowledge.


Technological Content Knowledge (TCK)

It involves the efficient transfer of content to students using technological Knowledge.


A good understanding of the relationship between content pedagogy and technology is essential for proper technology integration. For 21st century teachers, it is no longer sufficient to have only subject knowledge. Teachers need to combine technology integration, plan learning activities and ensure that their content is learned permanently.


How can TPACK Models can be used in language learning?

The use of technology in education passes through knowledge and understanding of English teachers. The using of technology in the language classroom gives creativity strategies to enhance technology and learning. Teachers do not want to use technology in their classrooms due to lacking time and facilities. Technology, pedagogy and content knowledge for English teachers give an understanding structure in learning and teaching process. TPACK ensures insight for pre-service teachers and in-service teachers of English in terms of three stuffs for education such as the aspect of technology, pedagogy and content knowledge. TPACK framework gives new perspectives for students to learn English better through movements, sounds and images and it creates a better learning surrounding to achieve students' language proficiency. TPACK ensures to gain basic skills such as collaboration, communication and critical thinking.
